¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ computer games courses third best in the UK

Computer games courses offered at ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ Leicester (¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ) have been named the third best in the country in a new national table.

The Daily Mail University Guide 2026 also placed ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ’s social policy courses in the national top 10, and the economics courses in the top 20.

Boasts - Computer Games

The rankings measures UK universities on their performance across 12 indicators, making it the broadest ranking of its kind.

The subject rankings use five measures – covering student satisfaction with teaching quality, the support they receive and their university experience, and two elements focused on graduate job outcomes – to rank universities across 78 subject areas.

At ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ, courses teaching computer games programmingwere rated as the third best in the UK.

Boasts - Economics

The courses include BSc Computer Games Programming, a three-year undergraduate course which prepares students for a technical career in the creative games and entertainment industry.

And BSc Games Production, another three-year undergraduate course which focuses on the tools and work-flow required in modern games development.

Students on the courses also benefit from use of the technology in ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ’s Digital Tech Learning Hub. The £6.5m hub was created with funding support from the Office for Students and was designed to meet the growing demand for advanced digital skills (such as cyber defence, artificial intelligence, data science, virtual production, creative technologies)  and prepare students for highly skilled roles.

The hub includes a Digital Creative Suite with motion tracking and image capture technologies in Queens Building, which bridges the gap between computing and creative technologies.

Boasts - Social Policy

Professor Shushma Patel, Dean of ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ’s Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media, said the ranking recognised the skills of the lecturers on the courses.

She said: “We are well known for the quality of our computer gaming courses and this is down to the caliber of the teaching staff and equipment we offer.

“Our graduates go on to work for legendary companies like Naughty Dog, Rockstar and Ubisoft, making some of the most popular games in the world.

“And we are fortunate that many of our graduates are happy to come back and meet with students on our courses, share their experience and industry knowledge.”

The rankings also highlighted ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ’s social policy courses as being the sixth best in the UK, and the economics courses – including Economics BSc – as being the country’s 18th best.
