Dr Josie Barnard's research shines within and beyond academia

Dr Josie Barnard’s research provided the foundation for both creative workshops funded by Oxford University and John Hopkins Medical Institute and an interactive exhibition at the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery in the summer of 2025. Barnard was also shortlisted for Times Higher Education Outstanding Research Supervisor of the Year Award 2025 in September, and her supervisee Dr Charlene Lee was the joint winner of ¸Ô±¾ÊÓÆµâ€™s Outstanding Doctoral Researcher Award at the inaugural Doctoral College Showcase in November 2025.

Dr Alex Bryne contributes to an multi-volumed edited collection of primary sources on the history of United States imperialism.

In December 2025, Routledge published the multi-volume edited collection American Imperialism in the Long Nineteenth Century: A Documentary History, 1775-1919 (Routledge, 2025). Each volume in this collection contains a diverse range of primary source material that helps readers contextualise the impact of United States imperialism from the American Revolution through to the close of the First World War. Dr Alex Bryne edited the forth volume which serves as the final chronological entry and covers the early twentieth century.
