Supporting our students to succeed through scholarships

A Scholarship is more than financial aid - it's a platform for success. These scholarships help students cover essential costs so they can focus on their studies, build confidence, and make the most of their university experience.

Scholarships are vital - they provide the lifeline that allows students not only to start university, but to stay, succeed and thrive. The majority of scholarships are award from first year and support students throughout the duration of their studies. The support is essential, with more than 31% of our students coming from the most disadvantaged backgrounds, to meet the increasing costs of living.

Targeting those in need

Our scholarship programmes are designed to support students with the most financial need. In addition to that we look to support applications who:

are care leavers;
are irreconcilably estranged from their parents;
are the first in their family to attend university
hold refugee status
applicants who live quintile one of the POLAR4 system. These are areas where low numbers of young people progress to university
have protected characteristics as defined in the Equality Act 2010
are children of military families

The scholarship programme is funded through the generosity of philanthropic donors and corporate sponsorship and it is only made possible by the individuals and organisations who support us.

A gift of £9,000 (£3,000 per year) can support one student through their entire undergraduate degree - a life-changing opportunity to achieve their full potential.

Donors who fund a full scholarship are invited to name their award in honour of someone meaningful to them, with recognition on our website and in relevant communications. We also offer opportunities for targeting giving - enabling donors to champion particular groups such as care leavers, under-represented students, or those on courses linked to their interests or values.

As Vice-Chancellor I am personally supporting a scholarship to honour my grandmother, Marjorie Blouet who was unable to attend university due to a lack of opportunity and funding at the time. Through this named scholarship opportunity, I am delighted that in her memory, I am able to provide support to a student to attend university.

The Stoneygate Scholarship provides three students from low income or disadvantaged backgrounds with an award of £4,000 per year*. The scholarships recognise students who have overcome adversity in pursuit of their goals.

The Adam Redfern Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established to support final year students with a flair for media, journalism and sport at 冈本视频, giving them the opportunity to make the most out of their time here before they go on to fulfil their career ambitions.

The Mattioli Scholarship is generously funded by the Ian and Clare Mattioli Charitable Trust and provides financial support for students from low/medium income families, or disadvantaged backgrounds, with an award of £3,000 per year (for a maximum three years).

National law firm Freeths has established a scholarship programme for law students in memory of Mukesh Patel, former Managing Partner of Freeths鈥� Leicester Office.

The Sophia Webster Scholarship was established by the international luxury footwear brand Sophia Webster and aims to widen access to the Footwear Design BA(Hons). The scholarship provides financial support for students from low/medium income families, or disadvantaged backgrounds, with an award of £3,000 per year (for a maximum three years).

The Welford Investments Scholarship is generously funded by Petar and Patricia Cvetkovic and will support an undergraduate student studying either a business or psychology course. Funds of £3000 are awarded each year, for the second and third year of study.

The Waymade Scholarship is generously funded by the Shanta Foundation and supports five BSc undergraduate Nursing or Midwifery students each year. Funds of £3,000 are available each year for the full 3 years of study.

Two undergraduate (Contour Fashion BA (Hons)) and two post graduate (MSc/MA Contour Fashion Innovation or MSc Sustainable Textile Technologies) have been funded by the Clothworkers鈥� Company. Undergraduate scholars will receive £5,000 per year of study and Postgraduate scholars will received £5,000 for a one year course.

The continuing support of The Worshipful Company of Cordwainers for the Footwear Design Programme at 冈本视频 is central to its success in preparing students for their future roles in industry. The scholarship is for £3,000 per year of study.

The David Tupman Women in Technology Scholarship has kindly been funded by alumnus David Tupman. The scholarship is intended to encourage and support ambitious young women to undertake a degree in Engineering.

The Ivy Gate Foundation Scholarship has kindly been donated by The Ivy Gate Foundation, founded by alumnus Roger Le Tissier. The scholarship provides financial support for students from low income or disadvantaged backgrounds, with an award of £3,000 per year.

The Mattioli Woods Scholarship has been provided by local wealth management company, Mattioli Woods, to support students in their second and third year of finance based courses (Finance and Investments, Economics, and Accounting and Finance). Funds of £3,000 are awarded each year, for the second and third year of study.

The Creative Vision Scholarship: Supporting Excellence in Performing, Fine, and Visual Arts was created to support students studying Drama and Theatre Arts BA (Hons), Fine Art BA (Hons), Photography and Video BA (Hons), and Film Studies BA (Hons).

A new scholarship looks to support students from low-income backgrounds to complete an undergraduate degree that includes a focus on dye and colouration techniques - Textile Design BA (Hons), Fashion Textile Design BA (Hons), Fashion Design BA (Hons). The scholarship is for £5,000 per year of study.

The Business and Law Scholarship was created to support aspiring undergraduate students from low income backgrounds into studying within the Business and Law Faculty.

The Joffe Scholarship was created to support students pursuing the Law LLB (Hons) course. It aims to make legal education more accessible, particularly those from low income backgrounds.

The Shoe Zone Trust, as part of its continued support for the advancement of education and relief of financial hardship, have established the Shoe Zone Trust Scholarship.

The Allied Health Sciences Scholarship is for £3,000 per year of study, and is available to students studying Speech and Language Therapy, Healthcare Science (Audiology), Diagnostic Radiography, Biomedical Science, Health and Wellbeing in Society, or Paramedic Science.

The Dr E J Bish Scholarship is funded by a donation form Mrs C A Bish, in memory of her late husband, Dr Bish, the former Head of School of Biology. The scholarship is for £3,000 and is available to students studying Global Health, Advanced Biomedical Science, Public Health (MPH), or Physician Associate Studies.

The J Thompson Scholarship is funded from kind donations from staff and students in Health and Life Sciences, in memory of Dr Jeanne Thompson. The scholarship is for £3,000 per year of study, and is available to students studying Medical Science.

The scholarship is for £3,000 and is available to students studying Clinical Pharmacy, Cosmetic Science, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Quality Design.

The Hedges Scholarship is funded through a bequest from a former member of staff, Beatrice Hedges, to support students studying Education. The scholarship is for £3,000 per year of study, and is available to students studying Education Studies, Education Studies with Languages, or Education Studies with Psychology.

The W R Evans and W H Staynes Scholarship has been funded by endowments from Ann and Bill (William) Evans, both alumni of the School of Pharmacy, and William Staynes, a local businessman. The scholarship is for £3,000 per year of study, and is available to students studying Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science and Forensic Science.

The Tungsten Properties Scholarship is generously funded by Jeff Penman and will support student studying on the Quantity Surveying and Construction BSc (Hons) course. The scholarship, of £3,000, is for third year students.

The scholarship has played a crucial role in easing financial pressures, allowing me to focus more on my studies and academic goals. It also enabled me to invest in resources and attend events that enriched my learning experience. I do still actively seek out further work to put myself in a better position - for example, I am now currently doing a Frontrunner Internship at 冈本视频. I鈥檓 truly grateful for this support, which has helped me stay motivated and committed throughout the year.
