Description
As part of our Inaugural Lecture Series.

Join us to hear from Professor Lisa Stansbie, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education, Equalities and Student Experience for her inaugural professorial lecture Motion.

Motion examines concepts of time and narrative through shifts between conceptual and physical movement. In this lecture, Lisa Stansbie reflects on more than 25 years of artistic practice, with a focus on two distinct bodies of work produced between 2008 and 2018.

The lecture is structured in two parts. The first explores the methodologies underpinning Lisa’s sculpture, film, and installation works from 2008 to 2011. These works are derived from short stories constructed using rule-based systems, drawing inspiration from George Perec and the Oulipo writers.

The second part, covering 2011 to 2018, marks a departure from this approach and investigates the intersection of art and sport, with the artist becoming an active participant in the work. Artworks from this period centre on Lisa’s engagement with channel swimming communities and her interest in the history of swimming in the UK.

A drinks reception will follow after the lecture.

Ticket sales will close 1 hour before the event starts.
